The Assistant Director supports the daily leadership of Bright Future Early Learning Program by assisting the Program Director in coordinating program operations, supervising teaching staff, and strengthening classroom practices.
Bright Future is an inclusive early learning community grounded in play-based pedagogy. This role helps ensure classrooms operate smoothly, teachers receive consistent guidance and support, and families experience clear communication and strong relationships with the program.
Working closely with the Program Director, this position plays a significant role in guiding and mentoring Lead Teachers, supporting curriculum implementation, and maintaining a high-quality early childhood learning environment.
The Assistant Director also collaborates with the Operational Lead to ensure classroom operations align with administrative systems such as enrollment, documentation, and program communication.
Staff Supervision and Lead Teacher Guidance
Support the Program Director in supervising teaching staff and mentor Lead Teachers
Strengthen classroom leadership, routines, and organization
Observe classrooms and provide constructive feedback
Guide developmentally appropriate teaching strategies
Support assistant teachers and aides for consistent supervision
Help design engaging, exploratory classroom environments
Assist with behavioral concerns, transitions, and family communication
Identify professional development needs
Reinforce program policies and supervision standards
Daily Program Operations
Support daily classroom coordination
Monitor teacher-child ratios and Title 22 compliance
Assist with staffing and substitute coverage
Respond to operational challenges
Maintain safe and organized environments
Curriculum and Program Development Support
Support play-based curriculum implementation
Help design learning centers and classroom environments
Assist with organizing and rotating materials
Support child observation and documentation
Assist with parent-teacher conferences and assessments
Family Communication and Support
Ensure clear communication with families
Support positive relationships with families
Assist with addressing concerns
Support family engagement events
Licensing Compliance and Program Safety
Support Title 22 compliance
Ensure safe supervision and ratios
Maintain organized documentation
Assist with licensing inspections
Coordination with Operational Lead
Align classroom operations with administrative systems
Communicate staffing, supply, and facility needs
Maintain communication between staff and administration
Reporting Relationships
The Assistant Director reports to the Program Director and collaborates with the Operational Lead. This role provides daily guidance and support to Lead Teachers and classroom staff.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, squat, and reach throughout the day
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
Ability to move through classrooms and outdoor areas
Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field preferred
Site Supervisor Permit (or in progress) preferred
Knowledge of California Title 22 regulations
Minimum 3 years experience in licensed childcare
Supervisory or mentoring experience preferred
Strong communication and leadership skills
CPR and First Aid certification
Experience with Brightwheel or similar systems preferred
